Dr. Memarzadeh reviewed indications for genetic testing and how this information can help guide preventive strategies and treatment for women’s cancers.
UCLA gynecologic oncologist Beth Karlan, MD, presented a live-streaming webinar to discuss state-of-the-art treatments for ovarian cancer and what’s different about hereditary ovarian cancer. Dr. Karlan discussed indications for genetic testing, the role of tumor molecular profiling in improving the survival for patients and their families, and targeted therapeutic options including PARP inhibitors, immunotherapy and clinical trials.
UCLA gynecologic oncologist Joshua G. Cohen, MD, presented a live-streaming webinar to discuss the upfront management of endometrial cancer. He discussed the genetic underpinnings of the disease, and provided information about subsequent treatment strategies with a focus on personalized medicine for this malignancy.
UCLA oncologist Gottfried E. Konecny, MD, presented an update on the PARP inhibitors olaparib, niraparib, and rucaparib, which have been approved for the treatment of ovarian cancers. PARP inhibitors are effective in both patients with germline BRCA1/2 mutations and BRCA1/2 “like” platinum sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer, and allow longer term treatment of this cancer as a chronic disease. We also discussed how to proactively plan for and manage treatment-related toxicities.
