Chronic Pelvic Pain and Vulvar Pain Program


The UCLA Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology provides comprehensive assessment and management for chronic pelvic pain and vulvar pain.

Dr. Andrea Rapkin, the founder and director of the UCLA Pelvic Pain program and has been in the vanguard of pelvic pain research and treatment for over 20 years.

The multi-disciplinary pelvic pain program brings together the expertise of gynecology, anesthesiology, physical therapy, and psychology for the treatment of complex pelvic pain disorders. The therapeutic program may include:

  • Surgery
  • Specific medications
  • Treatment of muscular and neuropathic components of pain
  • Attention to complimentary alternative approaches such as:
    • Diet
    • Acupuncture
    • Yoga and mindfulness based meditation
  • Various clinical trials involving novel mechanisms of treatment are also available.
