Research Interest: Immune Dysfunction and Cancer, AIDS Pathogenesis

Otto Martinez-maza is an immunologist who has served on the faculty of the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA since he joined the Departments of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics in 1988. He became a full professor in 1999. Dr. Martinez-Maza earned his B.S. in Biological Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, and Ph.D. in Microbiology & Immunology at UCLA. He was a postdoctoral fellow at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, where he worked on the activation of B cells by Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). His laboratory research focuses on the interactions between immune dysfunction caused by HIV infection and the pathogenesis of AIDS-associated cancers.
