Goals and Objectives:

The UCLA Obstetrics and Gynecology Grand Rounds represent four-year longitudinal curriculum of weekly lectures and presentations designed to augment the clinical experiences of Obstetrics and Gynecology resident physicians as well as to further and maintain the understanding of Obstetrics and Gynecology full-time and clinical Faculty on the management of clinically important problems or issues seen in their clinical practice.

The educational objectives are to educate the participant on:

  • The recognition, diagnosis and management of clinical problems arising in the areas of maternal/fetal medicine, medical and surgical gynecology, gynecologic oncology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility.
  • Disease prevention and promotion in the female patient.
  • Important psychosocial, legal, and public health issues likely to be encountered in clinical practice.

Needs Assessment

Program Title: Obstetrics and Gynecology Grand Rounds
Program Date: Academic Year 2009 - 2010

To qualify for Category I continuing medical education credit, the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education) mandates that a program undergoes a process of needs assessment which must include data sources beyond the sponsor's own prescription of need.

The following methods or materials can be used to justify the need for a program:

  • Epidemiological data
  • A search of the current literature
  • Consensus of experts in a particular field
  • A sample survey interview of prospective participants
  • Morbidity and mortality conferences
  • Input from specialty societies
  • Faculty consultations in the community
  • Experiences as visiting professors to community hospitals

The primary target audience for the UCLA Obstetrics and Gynecology Grand Rounds is the residents and faculty of the UCLA Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, as well as community practitioners.  Although designed originally to comply with the special requirements for residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology developed by the ACGME, which stipulates that  a weekly conference for obstetrics and gynecology residents be designed to augment their clinical experience, the content of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Grand Rounds fulfills the ongoing need of primary care physicians to remain current on the assessment and management of medical problems commonly seen in women's health issues that impact their practice.
